I. Educational Objectives

This program is aimed at cultivating senior engineering and technical talents who meet the competency standards for seafarers onboard the seagoing vessels and be qualified for the work related to the management of modern marine engineering.

II. Education Requirements

Students are expected to acquire basic theoretical knowledge concerning modern marine engineering and receive training for eng

ineers. Besides, they should be acquainted with the conventions and regulations concerning marine safety and ocean pollution prevention;be competent with watchkeeping in engine room;
be proficient in English usage and computer application; be equipped with preliminary capability for doing scientific research and practical work.

Upon graduation, students of this major are expected:

  1. to have the sound legal awareness and dedication in shipping industry;
  2. to develop the habit of studying hard, bearing hardship, abiding laws and following orders and at the same time  foster the spirit of team cooperation, having good professional ethics as a seafarer;

3. to possess the physical and psychological quality  required as being an   international seafarer,with a certain ammount of military knowledge;

4. to systematically master the knowledge concerning management of shipping mechanical and electrical equipment, with good practical abilities and competence  in supervising the engine room while on duty;

5. to be able to measure, analyze and adjust operating condition and  performance parameter of shipping mechanical and electrical equipment, with proficiency in basic skills to handle vehicle milling, clamping and welding;

6. to have solid English and computer operation ablities, proficient in reading English documents and writing business letters and documents, etc.

7. to obtain the Certificate of Qualifications for Engineers and other professional training certificates issued by Maritime Safety Administration;

8. to have strong working adaptability, meeting the demand for operating and managing various kinds of shipping mechanical and electrical equipment as well as other relative work such as vessel inspection and machinery maintenance.

III. Curriculum and Credit Distribution


1.   General Education Courses: 44 credits (44 credits for compulsory courses of GEC)

2.   Basic Disciplinary Courses: 47 credits (no less than 47 credits)

3. Specialty-oriented Courses: 59.5 credits (among which 49 credits for compulsory    specialty-oriented courses and 10.5 credits for elective specialty-oriented courses.

4. Optional Courses: 6 credits (no less than 6 credits)

5. Second Class(Extracurricular Activities): 3 credits (no less than 3 credits)
