I. Educational Objectives

The program is aimed at cultivating senior marine talents specializing in modern ships’navigation and management, who are qualified to meet the needs of China’s socialist modernization drive with all-round development in morality, physique and aesthetics,and who have professionalism with comprehensive knowledge and practical abilities, as well as an awareness of security and environmental protection, so as to be able to meet the national and international competency requirements for both mariners and seafarers.

 

II. Education Requirements

The students are supposed to acquire modern ocean-going ship manoeuvering, operating, managing and maintaining, and receive basic skill trainings on seamanship, the operation of navigational instruments, maritime communication and marine simulator, and be enabled to command and organize ships navigation and operation independently.

Students who have completed program learning are expected

1.to be acquainted with humanities, knowledge of environmental protection and occupational morality;

2. to master the basic knowledge of natural science as a solid foundation for profession;

3. to systematically master the basic professional technical theory, marine laws and regulations, shipping management and necessary professional knowledge;

4.to have excellent  practical skills and navigation skills

5. to have a good command of English, with the certification of CET4 or above;

6. to have strong computer skills and information accessing and processing ability;

7. to have a basic knowledge of new technologies and new trends in the field of navigation technology.

 8. to have the adaptability  in manoeuvring and managing all types of vessel and engaging in the corresponding inspection work

Length of schooling: 4 years

Academic credits required:161 credits (no less than 161 credits)

Degrees conferred: Bachelor of Engineering 

IVCurriculum and Credit Distribution

1.     General Education Courses: 44 credits (44 credits for compulsory  courses, apart from 10 credits for elective courses) 

2. Basic Disciplinary Courses: 37.5 credits

3. Specialty-Oriented Courses70.5 credits among which 54.5 credits for compulsory specialty-oriented courses and 16 credits for elective specialty-oriented courses.

4. Optional Courses: 6 credits

5. Second Class(Extracurricular Activities): 3 credits
