I. Educational Objectives

This program is designed to train higher level engineering professionals who are familiar with the basic theories of communication systems and signal processing, proficient in the knowledge of communication technology, communication systems and networks, aware of the latest development and trends of communication technology, equipped with the basic knowledge and practical ability of information processing, and capable of working in the design, research, manufacture and operation of communication industry.

II. Education Requirements

Students of this major are expected to master systematically the basic theories, composition principles and design methods of communication systems, communication network and signal processing, to have solid and extensive theoretical knowledge and basic practical training, and are capable of working in the design, development, testing and application of modern communication system and network.

Upon graduation, students are expected

1. to master the basic theories and knowledge in the field of communication;

2. to be familiar with the composition and structure of existing communication network and equipment;

3. to master communication technology including wired, wireless, light waves and multimedia; familiar with analysis and design methods of communication system and communication network; capable of design, debugging and testing, and application of communication system and communication network;

4. to have strong basic computer knowledge and operating skills, and master the initial capacity of hardware and software design and development;

5. to understand the basic principles, policies and regulations of the communication system and communication network construction;

6. to learn about the latest developments in communication technology, as well as the application of communication technology in the ports and shipping industry;

7. to master basic skills such as literature search and data query, and are capable of elementary scientific research and practical work; highly professional, possessing rigorous scientific attitude, independent working ability and self-teaching abilities.

IV. Curriculum and Credit Distribution

1. General Education Courses (48.5 credits)

Requirements: 38.5 credits for compulsory courses;10 credits for elective courses  (2 credits for each of the five major categories of economics, management, laws, humanities and the arts, literature and language)

2.Basic Disciplinary Courses (41 credits)

    Requirements: the total of 41 credits for basic courses in the Discipline.

3. Specialty-Oriented  Courses(61 credits)

Requirements: 47 credits for compulsory specialty-oriented courses; 14 credits for elective specialty-oriented courses.

4. Optional Courses(6 credits)

Requirements: 6 credits.

5. Second Class(Extracurricular Activities)(3 credits)
