 I. Educational Objectives

This program is aimed at training inter-disciplinary professionals with excellent command of the English language and thorough understanding of international shipping and foreign trade.

II. Education Requirements

Students of this program mainly focus on the study of the English language, English literature, history, politics, economics, culture and societies of English-speaking countries, and international shipping. They receive intensive training in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation in English, and are taught rudimentary research methods. Their professional skills and overall competence enable them to successfully engage in translational, research, teaching and management activities.

Upon graduation, students are supposed to acquire knowledge and abilities listed as follows:

1. Excellent English listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation skills; TEM-4 and TEM-8 certificates;

2. Mastery of linguistics and the basic knowledge of humanities and sciences;

3. Thorough understanding of international shipping and foreign trade;

4. Capability of undertaking academic exchanges, business negotiations, intelligence, translation tasks and drafting documents in English;

5. Possessing basic skills in a second foreign language;

6. Impressive breadth of cultural and societal knowledge, understanding of China's national conditions, knowledge of English-speaking countries;

7. Mastery of the basic methods of literature search, data query, preliminary scientific research and practical work.

IV. Curriculum and Credit Distribution

1. General Education Courses (31 credits)

Requirements: 21 credits for compulsory courses;10 credits for elective courses   

2.Basic Disciplinary Courses (63 credits)

Requirements: the total of 63 credits for basic courses in the discipline.

3. Specialty-Oriented  Courses(65 credits)

Requirements: 45 credits for compulsory specialty-oriented courses; 20 credits for elective specialty-oriented courses.

4. Optional Courses(6 credits)

Requirements: 6 credits.

5. Second Class( Extracurricular Activities)(3 credits)

Requirements: 3 credits
