I. Educational Objectives

This program is aimed at inter-disciplinary professionals with expertise in the Japanese language, adaptable to the challenges of the twenty-first century.Students are supposed to master a good command of Japanese and sufficient understanding of shipping, economics and trade, and profound appreciation of humanities and arts, and are masterful in cross-cultural communications.

II. Education Objectives

Students of this program mainly study the Japanese language, and are trained in language skills including listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation. They have a fair grasp of international shipping, economics and trade, and are familiar with Japan's politics, economy, society and culture. They understand the basics of scientific research, and are capable of undertaking tasks such as teaching, research, translation and management.

Upon graduation, students are supposed to acquire knowledge and abilities listed as follows:

1. Mastery of the basic theory and knowledge of Japanese language and literature;

2. A good command of knowledge of Japanese society and culture;

3. Skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation in Japanese;

4.  NSS4 and JLPT N1 certificate, and NSS8 desired;

5. Basic knowledge of maritime affairs, economics and trade;

6. CET-4 certificate and abilities to use English with little effort;

7. A good command of the Chinese language;

8. Computer knowledge and operation skills;

9. Mastery of the basic methods of document retrieval, data query, preliminary scientific research, and are capable of hands-on work.

IV. Curriculum and Credit Distribution

1. General Education Courses (51 credits)

Requirements: 41 credits for compulsory courses;10 credits for elective courses 

2.Basic Disciplinary Courses (52 credits)

Requirements: the total of 52 credits for basic courses in the Discipline.

3.Specialty-Oriented  Courses(58 credits)

Requirements: 45 credits for compulsory specialty-oriented courses (including 9 credits for intern work and graduation thesis); 13 credits for elective specialty-oriented courses.

4. Optional Courses(6 credits)

Requirements: 6 credits.

5. Second Class( Extracurricular Activities)(3 credits)

Requirements: 3 credits
