I. Educational Objectives

This major is aimed at cultivating senior talents with  professional knowledge in Maritime Law and good proficiency in English , who master the continental and common law system and be equipped with practical knowledge. The students of this program should be qualified to serve in the departments of state organs, enterprise institutions and social groups, especially administrative organs, judicial organs, arbitral organs, legal service institutions, shipping enterprises and insurance enterprises so as to undertake work incorporating laws and business.

II. Education Requirements

Students of this major are taught the basic theories and skills concerning China’s legal systems as well as the common law systems, given basic training on legal systems and legal thinking, so as to help develop strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Students who have completed program learning are expected：

1. to master the basic theories and skills of each legal discipline;

2. to acquire the basic analytical methods and intellectual thinking ability;

3 to be aware of the latest development in legal theories and constructions;

4. to be acquainted with civil and commercial, maritime and marine laws and the relevant business;

5. to acknowledge and master commercial legal system of the common law, with good  proficiency in English usage;

6. to master the basic methods on information retrieval, data query and be competent in scientific research and practical work；

7. to be equipped with problem-solving abilities using professional legal knowledge and legal thinking.

III. Length of Schooling, Minimum  Credits, Degrees Conferred

Length of Schooling: 4 years

Academic Credits Required: 162.5 credits is required for students who have experience studying abroad; 169.5 credits is required for students study at home; 46 credits is required for minor courses in English (including 20 credits converted from College English)

Degrees Conferred: Bachelor of Laws

IV. Curriculum and Credit Distribution

1. General Education Courses (31 credits)

Requirements: 21 credits for compulsory courses;10 credits for elective courses 

2. Basic Disciplinary Courses (45 credits)

    Requirements: the total of 45 credits for basic courses in the Discipline.

3. Specialty-Oriented Courses(57.5 credits for those who have studies abroad, 64.5 for those who haven’t been abroad )

Requirements: 47.5 credits for compulsory specialty-oriented courses; for elective specialty-oriented courses, 10 credits is required for students study abroad and 17 credits is required for students study at home.

4. Optional Courses (6 credits)

Requirements: 6 credits.

5. Second Class(Extracurricular Activities)(3 credits)

Requirements: 3 credits

6. Minor Courses in English(46 credits)

Requirements: 46 credits is required, including 20 credits converted from College English
