I. Educational Objectives


This program is designed to cultivate higher level practical design professionals with a solid science background, a systematic training in the basic theories, knowledge and skills of industrial design, a focus on practice and understanding of the latest development in the field, as well as strong product exterior design capacity, design development capacity and product innovative design capacity.


II.Education Requirements


   Students of this major are expected to grasp the basic knowledge of product design, mechanical design and art design. Besides mastering the basics of industrial design, students are also required to expand and update their knowledge, cultivate the creative design ability, computer-aided design skills and expertise in materials and craftsmanship, so that they will have outstanding professionalism and practical design capacity.


Upon graduation, students are supposed to acquire knowledge and abilities listed as follows:


1. A systematic grasp of the techniques and theories of the field including mechanical structure, processing craftsmanship, material application and electronics;


2. Solid understanding of the basics of industrial design including design expressiveness basics, design basics, design theories, industrial design project basics and computer-aided design;


3. A fair amount of knowledge of natural sciences, social sciences and arts and humanities, and elementary abilities to use relevant knowledge in the design and development of new products;


4. Mastery of the guidelines, policies and regulations that concern the economy, culture and art, as well as the trend and dynamic of art design home and abroad;


5. Skills in computer-aided design, proficiency in computer-aided industrial product modeling and planar design;


6. Aesthetics and art expression ability, capabilites of elementary product design and visual communication design.

IV. Curriculum and Credit Distribution


1. General Education Courses (54 credits)


Requirements: 44 credits for compulsory courses;10 credits for elective courses 


2.Basic Disciplinary Courses (40.5 credits)


    Requirements: the total of 40.5 credits for basic courses in the discipline.


3. Specialty-Oriented Courses(56.5 credits)


Requirements: 43.5 credits for compulsory specialty-oriented courses; 13 credits for elective specialty-oriented courses.


4. Optional Courses(6 credits)


Requirements: 6 credits.
