The College of Information Engineering consists of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Department of Electrical Engineering, Information Basic Education Division, Research Institute of Electronic Application, Research Institute of Shipping Information Engineering, Research Institute of Communication and Observation-Control Technology, Research Institute of Computer Network Engineering, and two teaching and experimental centers.

The College offers 5 Bachelor’s degree programs in Computing Science and Technology, Network Engineering, Information Management & Information System, Electronic & Information Engineering and Communications Engineering. It also offers 4 Master’s degree programs, including Computer Application, Computer Software and Theory, Communications and Information System, and Signal & Information Processing. In addition, two postgraduate programs, Computer Application Technology and Electronic & Communication Engineering, leading to the master’s degree were authorized.

Currently the college has a faculty of 110, including a teaching staff of over 75, including 35 Doctoral degree holders and 3 Doctoral Supervisors. There are 10 full professors, 28 associate professors and 35 lecturers in the college. At present the college has about 1600 full-time students and over 180 master and doctoral degree students.

The research of the college covers mainly these fields: the Application of Network Distribution Computation in Shipping Enterprises, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Information Management System, Pattern Recognition, Methods of Attribute Theory, Database Technology, Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, Multimedia Technology, Communication Theory and Technology, Port and Shipping Information Technology, and Transportation Electronics and Communication System.

The college has strong staff and abundant facilities for scientific research. Till now, its faculty have been in charge of two grants of the National High-Tech Research and Development Programs (863 Program), three grants of National Natural Science Foundation, two pre-research grants of National Defense, and several grants of the Ministry of Transport and the Shanghai Natural Science Foundation.

In 2008, its faculty published more than 100 journal papers, including 72 papers indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP, and won several National Defense and Shanghai Science & Technology Advancement Awards. In 2007, the college was listed as a Shanghai Education Height for Information Engineering (Port and Shipping).

As an educational base for port and shipping experts to serve the nation, the college aims to train skilled professionals who have a solid foundation in information technology and practical ability and are proficient in port and shipping information application.
