I. Training Objectives

The major aims to cultivate senior technology talents who will meet the standards for international seafarers’ education and training made by IMO as well as national eligibility requirements for  electro-technical officers, processing the basic training for engineers, be equipped with strong English usage and computer application ability, be competent in managing, maintaining and repairing modern vessel’s electronic and electronical equipments.

II. Education Requirements

The students of this major are systematically trained to master the basic theoretical knowledge of marine electronic and electronical engineering,  receiving basic training for electronic navigation system, marine communication system, marine electrical system, marine engineering automatic control system and marine engine room automation, so as to be qualified to undertake some preliminary management, maintainence and repairing work involving marine electronic and electronical equipment.

Upon graduation, students are expected

1. to have knowledge of social scienceenvironmental protection, law and professional ethics;

2. to have a solid ground in basic scientific and technological theories as well as professional knowledge required;

3. to be proficient in using English to read English journals and books related to the field and competent in writing business letters and documents, etc.;

4. to have a good practical ability, competent in undertaking management and maintainence work involving marine electronic and electronical equipment and in keeping the operation of  marine electronic and electronical equipment in its good working condition;

5. to be capable in  measuring, analyzing and adjusting the operating conditions of marine electronic and electronical equipment and its performance parameter;

6. to have adequate computer application abilities, capable of mastering and maintaining the advanced marine electronic and electronical equipment and the vessel’s computer network;

7. to have strong working adaptability, competent in undertaking  and repairing work with regard to electronic and electronical equipment , special-purpose vessel and offshore platform and to undertake other relevant work involving installation, assembly and commissioning of marine electromechanical equipments;

8.to have the opportunity of taking national examination in Skill Assessment for Marine Electrotechnical Officer Competency

Certificate and get the corresponding Qualification Certificate issued by Maritime Safety Administration after passing the exam.

Length of Schooling: 4 years

Academic Credits Required: 160 credits

Degrees Conferred: Bachelor of Engineering

IV. Curriculum and Credits Distribution

  1. General Education Courses (54 credits)

Requirements: 44 credits for compulsory courses;10 credits for elective courses;  

2. Basic Disciplinary Courses (41 credits)

    Requirements: the total of 41 credits for basic courses in the Discipline.

3. Specialty-Oriented  Courses(56 credits)

Requirements: 48.5 credits for compulsory specialty-oriented courses; 11.5 credits for elective specialty-oriented courses.

4. Optional Courses(6 credits)

Requirements: 6 credits.

5. Second Class(Extracurricular Activities)(3 credits)

Requirements: No less than 3 credits
