I. Educational Objectives
As an economics discipline with particular emphasis on shipping and logistics development, meeting the demand of knowledge economy, this major is aimed at cultivating interdisciplinary talents who have a wide scope of knowledge, a good sense of innovation, and strong practical abilities; At the same time, the program is designed to train good-qualified shipping specialists with a broad perspective, a solid theoretical and practical foundation of Economics, International Economics, International Trade, Finance, Shipping and Logistics Economics, good at using modern economic analysis method, familiar with every segments of international shipping and logistics system, capable of expanding specialized knowledge to economics involved, being able to accommodate to the development of communications and transportation of the modern society. It also helps to train advanced specialists who are able to be engaged in economic analysis, economic projections, planning and management, freight transportation, cargo chart booking and shipping, etc. in the related institutions such as general economic administrative departments, policy research divisions, financial institutions, international shipping enterprises, port enterprises, and logistics.
II. Education Requirements
The economics-related specialties includes 3 majors: Economics (with an emphasis on shipping and logistics), International Economics and Trade, and Finance (with an emphasis on shipping), all give prominence to international business environment and the demand of more talented people who have the interdiciplinary abilities to participate in multinational deals, with a global perspective of shipping and logistics. Students of this major are supposed to finish the Basic Courses in the Discipline during the first 5 semesters and then the Specialty-oriented Courses during the last 3 semesters. Besides all the credits required for the Basic Courses and the Specialty-oriented Courses, students of each major are supposed to get extra credits from other courses related to Economics.
Students of economics-related specialties are supposed to master the fundamental knowledge and basic skills of Economics and receive the systematic training in foreign trade transportation, international trade and commerce, financial service with an overall perspective of Economics, and acquire the abilities of analyzing and solving problems with the theoretical knowledge and methods of Economics.
Students who have completed program learning are expected
1.to be equipped with good political awareness and ethical qualities;
2.to master the modern economic theories and analytical methods systematically so as to develop a strong sense of economic thinking;
3. to learn about the theoretical current issues and the trend in the economics domain so as to acquire the abilities and skills needed in dealing with the foreign trade and commerce;
4. to master at least one foreign language and have the better abilities in listening, speaking, reading and writing;
5. to be competent in computer and Internet-related application skills and expert in e-commerce business.
6. to have a good command of knowledge about document retrieval so as to possess the basic abilities in scientific research and practical work.

the compulsory courses and 10 credits for the elective courses)

3. Specialty-oriented Courses: 49 credits (including 33 credits for the required courses and 16 for the elective courses)
