I. Educational Objectives

This program is aimed at training professionals with wholesome personality and all-round development, proficient in English and skillful in cross-cultural communication, capable of performing translation and interpretation tasks in fields as varied as foreign diplomacy, foreign affairs, news, economy and trades, international cultural and technological exchanges.

II. Education Requirements

Students of this program mainly focus on the study of the English language, English literature, history, culture and societies of English-speaking countries. They receive intensive training in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation in English, and are taught rudimentary research methods. Their professional skills and overall competence enable them to successfully engage in translational, interpreting, research and teaching activities.

Upon graduation, students are supposed to acquire knowledge and abilities listed as follows:

1. Proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating in English; pass TEM-4 and  even TEM-8.

2. Mastery of Linguistics and the basic knowledge of humanities and sciences;

3. Mastery of the basic theory and knowledge of English language and literature;

4. Abilities to undertake translation and interpretation tasks for academic exchanges, business

negotiations, intelligence information and other occasions;

5. Mastery of the basic skills in a second foreign language;

6. A good command of breadth of cultural and societal knowledge, understanding of China's

national conditions, knowledge of English-speaking countries;

7. Mastery of the basic methods of literature search, data query, preliminary scientific research and practical work.

IV. Curriculum and Credit Distribution

1. General Education Courses (31 credits)

Requirements: 21 credits for compulsory courses;10 credits for elective courses 

2.Basic Disciplinary Courses (71 credits)

Requirements: the total of 71 credits for basic courses in the discipline.

3. Specialty-Oriented  Courses(61 credits)

Requirements: 45 credits for compulsory specialty-oriented courses; 16 credits for elective specialty-oriented courses.

4. Optional Courses(6 credits)

Requirements: 6 credits.

5. Second Class( Extracurricular Activities)(3 credits)
