I. Educational Objectives

This program is designed to train inter-disciplinary professionals with wholesome personality and all-round development, proficient in English and masterful in international business knowledge and practical skills, familiar with the basics of international shipping, refined in the knowledge of humanities and arts, skillful in cross-cultural business communication, adaptable to the challenges of globalization, and capable of competing on an international stage. Graduates can work in business operation and management for companies with foreign businesses and international shipping companies, and perform translation and interpretation tasks.

 

II. Education Requirements

Students of this program mainly focus on mastering English, translation, cross-cultural business communication, international business, international shipping, international law, economics and management science. They receive intensive training in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translation in English, and are taught rudimentary research methods. With savvy in international business and international shipping and excellent command of English, the graduates confidently engage in cross-cultural international business activities and are capable of high quality translation and interpretation work

Upon graduation, students are supposed to acquire knowledge and abilities listed as follows:

1. Proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating in English, passing TEM-4 and even TEM-8 and Advanced Cambridge BEC Exam;

2. A firm grasp of the basics of international business, international shipping, international logistics, international business law, economics, management, cross-cultural communication and modern technology;

3. Mastery of the basic knowledge of English and American literature, and linguistics;

4. Capabilities to work for multinational companies, international shipping and logistics companies; possessing basic business management capacity; capable of conducting intercultural business communication in English, and translation and interpreting on business occasions;

5. Abilities to use a second foreign language in daily communication;

6. A good command of Extensive cultural and social knowledge: deep understanding of China’s national conditions and the cultures and societies of the English-speaking countries;

7. Mastery of the basic methods of literature search, data query, and the preliminary skills in scientific research and practical work.

IV. Curriculum and Credit Distribution

1. General Education Courses (31 credits)

Requirements: 21 credits for compulsory courses;10 credits for elective courses 

2.Basic Disciplinary Courses (52 credits)

Requirements: the total of 52 credits for basic courses in the discipline.

3. Specialty-Oriented  Courses(79 credits)

Requirements: 57 credits for compulsory specialty-oriented courses; 22 credits for elective specialty-oriented courses.

4. Optional Courses(6 credits)

Requirements: 6 credits.

5. Second Class(Extracurricular Activities)(3 credits)
