I. Educational Objectives
The program is aimed at training cross-disciplinary high level engineering professionals with wholesome morality, intelligence, physical fitness and excellent overall competitiveness, who are expert in the basic theories of materials science, corrosion prevention and surface engineering, and are capable of carrying out responsibilities such as scientific research, technology development, process and equipment design, production and operation management, and anti-corrosion engineering in fields such as materials composition and performance, materials equipment and processing, materials corrosion control, surface engineering technology, coating production and application. Graduates are expected work in industries such as materials, shipping, marine engineering and equipment, metallurgy, petroleum, chemical, mechanical, aeronautics and astronautics, and military industry.
II. Education Requirement
Students of this program focus on the basic theories of materials science and engineering, the basic knowledge of materials corrosion prevention and surface engineering, the training of research ability and engineering techniques, and the acquisition of basic analytical and problem-solving skills related to materials corrosion prevention.Upon graduation, students are supposed to acquire knowledge and abilities listed as follows:
1. Solid foundation of natural sciences, fair grasp of humanities and social sciences, and basic understanding of marine sciences;
2. Mastery of the basic theoretical knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanics and other related fields of study;
3. Grasp of the basic theories of materials science and engineering, and the relation and basic rules of materials composition, fabrication, process and equipment, structure, property and application, and basic training in the essential skills such as material fabrication, component analysis, property evaluation, organizational structure characterization;
4. Expertise in the basic theories and techniques of corrosion prevention and surface engineering, and elementary skills in materials failure analysis, proper selection and comprehensive application of anti-corrosion methods;
5. Mastery of the basic theory and knowledge of anti-corrosion coating, capability to engage in the research and development, application, production and quality management, technical guidance of anti-corrosion coatings;
6. Familiarity with the trends and dynamics of the field, and mastery of relevant theories and knowledge of materials modification, research and development of new materials, materials manufacturing process and equipment;
7.Fair command of English, ability to access foreign literature, proficient reading of professional literature in a foreign language, and skills in listening, speaking and writing;
8. Mastery of the basic theories of computer science, strong computer skills and engineering capacity.
